MOTION:JENKINS June 24,1997 <br />Regular Meeting <br />SECOND:CADDIGAN Ord.No,97-62 <br />RE:EMERGENCY ADOPTION OF,AND AUTHORIZATION OF PUBLIC <br />HEARING TO CONSIDER,AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 31 OF THE <br />PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY CODE <br />ACTION:DEFEATED <br />WHEREAS,effective July 1,1997,VA Code Ann.§18.2-308 authorizes the <br />Board of County Supervisors,by ordinance,to require that any applicant for a concealed <br />handgun permit must submit to fingerprinting for the purposes of obtaining the applicant’s state <br />and national criminal history record;and <br />WHEREAS,amendments to Chapter 31 of the Prince William County Code <br />have been prepared to meet the guidelines of §18.2-308,VA Code Ann,and public law 92-544, <br />which amendments require that an applicant for a concealed handgun permit shall be <br />fingerprinted and that such fingerprints shall be forwarded through the Virginia State Police to <br />the FBI for a national criminal history check;and <br />WHEREAS,an emergency exists insofar as the ordinance must be adopted prior <br />to July 1,1997,in order to continue the current policy of fingerprinting handgun permit <br />applicants;and <br />WHEREAS,the Board considers adoption of the proposed amendment to be in <br />the public interest; <br />NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT ORDAINED that the Board of County <br />Supervisors of Prince William County does hereby adopt,on an emergency basis,the attached <br />amendments to Chapter 31 ofthe Prince William County Code to be effective July 1,1997; <br />NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County <br />Supervisors of Prince William County hereby authorizes a public hearing to consider the <br />attached amendments to Chapter 31 of the Prince William County Code and directs the Clerk to <br />the Board to schedule and advertise such a public hearing.
