MOTION:BARG May 6,1997 <br />Regular Meeting <br />SECOND:CADDIGAN Ord,No,97-41 <br />RE:AMENDMENT TO SECTIONS 13-70(c)AND 26-41(a)OF THE PRINCE <br />WILLIAM COUNTY CODE TO CHANGE THE DATE OF FILING THE <br />APPLICATION FOR TAX RELIEF FOR ELDERLY AND DISABLED <br />PERSONS <br />ACTION:APPROVED <br />WHEREAS,the Board of County Supervisors has approved and authorized the <br />implementation of a re-engineering plan for improved customer service and improved tax base; <br />and <br />WHEREAS,the plan proposes an extension of the time within which an eligible <br />taxpayer may apply for the tax relief authorized by various provisions-ofthe-Prince William <br />County Code;and <br />WHEREAS,the Board of County Supervisors finds that the proposed <br />amendments will promote health,safety and welfare and are in the best interest of the citizens of <br />the County; <br />NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of County <br />Supervisors ofPrince William County that Section 13-70 (c)and Section 26-4 1 (a)of the Code <br />of Prince William County are hereby amended to read as follows: <br />Sec.13-70,Same—To certain elderly persons. <br />(c)The application for relief under this section shall be filed on forms to be ftirnished by <br />the supervisor of assessments upon request.Any such application shall be made,under oath,in <br />the office of the supervisor of assessments and shall be filed after January first but before <br />February April fifteenth of the year for which such relief is sought. <br />Sec.26-41.Application for exemption. <br />(a)Application for the exemption and/or deferral provided for in this article shall be <br />made after the first day of January,but before the ficst fifteenth day of May April,of each year <br />for which the exemption and/or deferral is sought,except that this date shall be extended on the <br />approval of the director of finance,if the applicant is applying for the exemption and/or deferral <br />for the first time or in cases of hardship,and if proper application is made along with a sworn <br />affidavit that failure to apply by the first day of May was due to reasons beyond the applicant’s <br />control. <br />These ordinance amendments shall become effective on and after January 1,1998.
