MOTION:MCQUIGG February 4,1997 <br />Regular Meeting <br />SECOND:HILL Ord,No,97-19 <br />RE:ZONING TEXT AMENDMENT #97-02,STANDARDS FOR THE <br />KEEPING OF LWESTOCK IN THE A-i,AGRICULTURE ZONING <br />DISTRICT <br />ACTION:FAILED <br />WHEREAS,the Prince William Board of County Supervisors is dedicated to <br />protecting the health,safety and general welfare of the people while encouraging the <br />development of a convenient and attractive community;and <br />WHEREAS,periodic changes to County Codes,ordinances and regulations are <br />necessary to meet this goal;and <br />WHEREAS,Section 15.1-491(g),VA Code Ann.,allows amendments, <br />supplements or changes to the regulations,district boundaries,or classification of property <br />whenever the public necessity,convenience,general welfare,or good zoning practice require; <br />and <br />WHEREAS,the Board of County Supervisors initiated a zoning text <br />amendment on December 10,1996 by Res.No,96-i 137;and <br />WHEREAS,this amendment will clarify the definition of “agriculture”and will <br />establish standards,within the parameters of the Right to Farm Act,related to the keeping of <br />livestock in the A-i,Agriculture zoning district when such use is located in proximity to <br />suburban residential settings;and <br />WHEREAS,the Planning Commission held a public hearing on these <br />amendments on January 8,i997 and recommended denial as stated in Res,No,97-005;and <br />WHEREAS,a public hearing,duly advertised in a local newspaper for a period <br />oftwo (2)weeks,was held on February 4,1997;and <br />WHEREAS,this amendment is required for the public necessity,convenience, <br />general welfare,and good zoning practice,and is consistent with the intent of Title 15.1-489 of <br />the Code of Virginia and promotes the following purpose ofthe Zoning Ordinance: <br />To facilitate the creation of a convenient,attractive and harmonious community; <br />NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT ORDAINED that the Prince William Board of <br />County Supervisors does hereby adopt the proposed amendment to the Zoning Ordinance (ZTA <br />97-02),as attached hereto.
