MOTION: COVINGTON September 6, 2005 <br />Regular Meeting <br />SECOND: CADDIGAN Ord. No. 05-64 <br />RE: COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AMENDMENT #PLN2004-00253, GEORGE <br />MASON UNIVERSITY — PRINCE WILLIAM CAMPUS SECTOR PLAN <br />AMENDMENT — BRENTSVILLE MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT <br />WHEREAS, under Section 15.2-2229 of the Virginia Code, the Prince William <br />Board of County Supervisors may consider amendments to the Comprehensive Plan; and <br />WHEREAS, during the update and adoption of the Comprehensive Plan in <br />2003, it was recommended that the George Mason University — Prince William Campus Sector <br />Plan be amended to remove the properties between Wellington Road and the railroad and to <br />redesignatu those properties from REC to a more appropriate designation; and <br />WHEREAS, this proposal recognizes that the sector plan contains the <br />Innovation business -advanced technology park, which surrounds a centralized George Mason <br />University — Prince William Campus with nearby complementary uses; and <br />WHEREAS, the objective of the sector plan is to create a "learning <br />environment" at a prestigious university through encouraging high technology and related uses, <br />as well as protecting the university environs; and <br />WHEREAS, updating the sector plan will facilitate the economic development <br />goals for this area; and <br />WHEREAS, this proposal will enhance the compatibility of the properties north <br />of Wellington Road with the existing uses in the area; and <br />WHEREAS, on March 16, 2004, the Board initiated the requested amendment <br />and referred it to the Planning Cnmmission; and <br />WHEREAS, staff has reviewed the subject application and recommends <br />approval of the plan amendment; and <br />WHEREAS, the Planning Commission held public hearings on this item on <br />June 6, 2005, and August 31, 2005, and recommends approval as stated in Planning <br />Commission Resolution Number 05-084; and <br />
