MOTION:CADDIGAN December 16,1997 <br />Regular Meeting <br />SECOND:HILL Res.No.97-1022 <br />RE:REQUEST THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION <br />(VDOT)TO INSTALL INCREASED FINES FOR SPEEDING SIGNS ON <br />THE SECTION OF HORNER ROAD BETWEEN TILE PRINCE <br />WILLIAM PARKWAY AND OCCOQUAN ROAD IN ThE <br />WOODBRIDGE MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT <br />ACTION:APPROVED <br />WHEREAS,the section of Homer Road between the Prince William Parkway <br />and Occoquan Road meets the criteria of a local residential street and has a posted speed limit of <br />35 miles per hour or lower;and <br />WHEREAS,said portion of the street has been identified as having a speeding <br />problem;and <br />WHEREAS,at least 51%of residents living on Homer Road between the Prince <br />William Parkway and Occoquan Road have signed a petition requesting the installation of signs <br />which indicate a maximum punishment of $200 for speeding within that section of Homer Road, <br />in addition to other penalties as provided by law;and <br />WHEREAS,the Board believes there is community support for the designation <br />and posting of this street for the additional penalty; <br />NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Prince William Board of <br />County Supervisors does hereby request that VDOT install the appropriate signs as defined by <br />and provided for in §46.2-878.2 of the Code of Virginia on the section of Homer Road between <br />the Prince William Parkway and Occoquan Road,in accordance with the Commonwealth <br />Transportation Board’s “Policy on Increased Fines in Residential Areas.” <br />Votes: <br />Ayes:Caddigan,Hill,Jenkins,McQuigg,Seefeldt,Thompson,Wilbourn <br />Nays:None <br />Absent from Vote:Barg <br />Absent from Meeting:None <br />For Information: <br />Chief of Police <br />Tom Blaser,Transportation Division Chief <br />Tom Fahrney,Transportation Planning Branch Chief <br />VDOT Assistant Resident <br />CERTWIED COPY
