MOTION:CADDIGAN December 16,1997 <br />Regular Meeting <br />SECOND:HILL Res.No.97-1 008 <br />RE:COMMEND -DENNIS STEWART -COMPUTER PROJECT FOR <br />SCHOOL CHILDREN <br />ACTION:APPROVED <br />WHEREAS,Dennis Stewart saw a need in the community and recognized an <br />opportunity to help children;and <br />WHEREAS,Mr.Stewart worked for three years to get his employer,the Army <br />Corps of Engineers,to donate surplus used personal computers and equipment to County <br />schools instead of reselling;and <br />WHEREAS,Dennis’dream was different than most computer donations to <br />schools in that these were to go home with students;and <br />WHEREAS,volunteers were rounded up to refurbish and assemble computer <br />parts into a functioning personal computer unit for needy students;and <br />WHEREAS,on December 6,1997,at Potomac View Elementary School,the <br />first refurbished personal computer transition was made to students and their families through <br />the generosity ofthe Army Corps of Engineers and the cooperation of the Army who furnished <br />warehouse space at the former research lab on Dawson Beach Road; <br />NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Prince William Board of <br />County Supervisors does hereby commend Dennis Stewart for his persistence and dedication to <br />this project and for bringing together a community in a common goal to help the children of <br />Prince William County. <br />Votes: <br />Ayes:Caddigan,Hill,Jenkins,McQuigg,Seefeldt,Thompson,Wilbourn <br />Nays:None <br />Absent from Vote:Barg <br />Absent from Meeting:None <br />CERTIFIED COPY <br />C erk to the Board
