MOTION:CADDIGAN December 9,1997 <br />Regular Meeting <br />SECOND:JENKINS Res.No.97-992 <br />RE:PROCLAIM -DECEMBER 10th AS UNIVERSAL HUMAN RIGHTS <br />DAY <br />ACTION:APPROVED <br />WHEREAS,December 10th has been designated Universal Human Rights Day <br />by the General Assembly of the United Nations;and <br />WHEREAS,the recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and <br />inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom,justice and <br />peace in the world;and <br />WHEREAS,a common understanding of these rights and freedoms is of the <br />greatest importance for the full realization of human rights;and <br />WHEREAS,the Prince William Board of County Supervisors has legislated the <br />authority of the Prince William County Human Rights Commission to enforce and educate the <br />citizens of Prince William County on human rights issues and its ordinance;and <br />WHEREAS,since 1994,the Prince William Board of County Supervisors has <br />proclaimed this day; <br />NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Prince William Board of <br />County Supervisors does hereby proclaim December 10th as Universal Human Rights Day and <br />urges all citizens to support and promote the concept of Human Rights and to support the <br />efforts and activities of the Prince William County Human Rights Commission on this day and <br />throughout the year. <br />Votes: <br />Ayes:Barg,Caddigan,Hill,Jenkins,McQuigg,Seefeldt,Thompson,Wilbourn <br />Nays:None <br />Absent from Vote:None <br />Absent from Meeting:None <br />For Information: <br />Human Rights Commission <br />CERTIFIED COPY
