MOTION:CADDIGAN December 9,1997 <br />Regular Meeting <br />SECOND:JENKINS Res.No.97-99 1 <br />RE:COMMEND -DALE CITY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT - <br />THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY <br />ACTION:APPROVED <br />WHEREAS,the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department had a humble beginning <br />30 years ago in November of 1967 when 40 interested individuals met to make initial plans — <br />an effort that was funded by $1,000 from raffling a donated hand-crafted nativity scene;and <br />WHEREAS,a building site for Dale City’s first fire station at Dale Boulevard <br />and Birchdale Avenue was donated by Hylton Enterprises in 1968,and the firehouse there was <br />dedicated in June 1969;and <br />WHEREAS,the years that followed saw substantial growth with the <br />construction of the Hillendale Station which was dedicated in 1976 and the Princedale Station <br />which was dedicated in 1992;and <br />WHEREAS,the equipment has grown from the first slightly used fire engine <br />purchased in 1968,and affectionately known as “Betsy,”to 24 pieces of equipment currently <br />owned;and <br />WHEREAS,the volunteers have grown from the 40 individuals who first met in <br />November 1967 to over 250 volunteers;and <br />WHEREAS,a fourth station is in the plans for construction in Prince William <br />Commons; <br />NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Prince William Board of <br />County Supervisors does hereby commend the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department on the <br />occasion of its thirtieth anniversary,for its dedication to the safety of Dale City and Prince <br />William County residents and for its commitment to providing service that,according to its <br />motto,shall remain “Second to None.” <br />Votes: <br />Ayes:Barg,Caddigan,Hill,Jenkins,McQuigg,Seefeldt,Thompson,Wilbourn <br />Nays:None <br />Absent from Vote:None <br />Absent from Meeting:None <br />CERTIFIED COPY
