MOTION:CADDIGAN December 9,1997 <br />Regular Meeting <br />SECOND:JENKINS Res.No.97-989 <br />RE:COMMEND -PROMOTING ECONOMIC ADVANCEMENT AND <br />CAREER EDUCATION (PEACE) <br />ACTION:APPROVED <br />WHEREAS,Promoting Economic Advancement and Career Education <br />(PEACE)was formed by concerned Prince William County residents for the purpose of <br />creating new employment opportunities for the low-income residents ofthe County;and <br />WHEREAS,the Board of Directors of PEACE has created its first new business <br />development project which will create a retail confectionery business within Prince William <br />County;and <br />WHEREAS,this new business project will provide life management skills and <br />vocational skills training to enable low-income individuals to move away from government <br />assistance toward self-sufficiency;and <br />WHEREAS,PEACE has established a strong partnership relationship with <br />relevant State and County government departments,community service agencies,and <br />professional organizations to strengthen the network of support available to these individuals <br />and improve their opportunities for success;and <br />WHEREAS,PEACE has brought distinction to Prince William County by <br />obtaining recognition of this project by the U,S.Department of Health and Human Services as <br />a Job Opportunities for Low-Income Individuals (JOLI)Demonstration Project,the first so <br />designated in the Commonwealth of Virginia,which recognition brings significant federal <br />funding to provide the start-up capital for the new business development project; <br />NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Prince William Board of <br />County Supervisors does hereby commend the Board of Directors of PEACE and expresses <br />gratitude for its efforts on behalf of the community. <br />Votes: <br />Ayes:Barg,Caddigan,Hill,Jenkins,McQuigg,Seefeldt,Thompson,Wilbourn <br />Nays:None <br />Absent from Vote:None <br />Absent from Meeting:None <br />CERTIFIED COPY
