MOTION:JENKINS May 6,1997 <br />Regular Meeting <br />SECOND:HILL Res.No,97-357 <br />RE:PROCLAIM MAY 11-17,1997,AS “NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION <br />WEEK”IN PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY <br />ACTION:APPROVED <br />WHEREAS,Public Law 87-449,House Joint Resolution 628 of the United <br />States House of Representatives authorized the President to proclaim the week in May in which <br />falls the third Friday of that month as “National Transportation Week”;and <br />WHEREAS,keeping pace with the demands of the County’s roadway and <br />transit network continues to be one of the toughest challenges facing Prince William County; <br />and <br />WHEREAS,major new roads are being built with funds voted by the citizens; <br />and <br />WHEREAS,Virginia Railway Express commuter rail service as well as <br />improved Commuteride and VRE feeder bus service is being offered;and <br />WHEREAS,the County actively participates in regional and Commonwealth <br />transportation efforts;and <br />WHEREAS,the County’s Rideshare program is considered to be among the <br />best in the Nation;and <br />WHEREAS,a Multi-purpose Transit Center is being constructed;and <br />WHEREAS,the Board of County Supervisors wishes to applaud the <br />community-minded spirit of those citizens and,in particular,the Commission on <br />Transportation,who dedicate their time and efforts to promoting transportation improvements; <br />and <br />WHEREAS,efforts are being made by state and local governments and <br />organizations nationwide to proclaim “National Transportation Week”; <br />NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Prince William Board of <br />County Supervisors does hereby proclaim the week of May 11-17,1997,as “National <br />Transportation Week”in Prince William County.
