MOTION:JENKINS February 18,1997 <br />Regular Meeting <br />SECOND:CADDIGAN Res,No,97-134 <br />RE:STATE FUNDING FOR THE CONTINUED IMPLEMENTATION OF <br />THE CHESAPEAKE BAY PRESERVATION AREA REGULATIONS <br />ACTION:APPROVED <br />WHEREAS,in 1988 the General Assembly enacted the Chesapeake Bay <br />Preservation Act,VA Code Section 10,1-2100,et seq.,which required Prince William County <br />as a Tidewater County to incorporate water quality protection measures into the County <br />ordinance and Comprehensive Plan;and <br />WHEREAS,Prince William County has adopted ordinances and regulations on <br />November 27,1990 to implement the provisions ofthe Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act;and <br />WHEREAS,the Chesapeake Bay Local Assistance Department has submitted a <br />Request for Proposals for financial assistance to local governments to facilitate the <br />implementation of the local Chesapeake Bay preservation ordinances and regulations;and <br />WHEREAS,the grant request will include $50,000 toward funding for existing <br />County engineer and inspector positions;and <br />WHEREAS,routine activities performed by the County engineer and inspector <br />will be used as a match for the grant funds;and <br />WHEREAS,the grant request will also include funding for local Chesapeake <br />Bay Preservation program projects;and <br />WHEREAS,the Prince William Board of County Supervisors has previously <br />authorized staff to apply for similar funding in Fiscal Years 91 through 97;and <br />WHEREAS,a grant amount of $27,000 was included in the Watershed <br />Management Division’s budget in FY97;and <br />WHEREAS,a portion ofthe projected grant funds will be included in the <br />Department of Public Works,Watershed Management Division’s budget for FY98;
