MOTION: CADDIGAN <br />SECOND: JENKINS <br />January 4, 2005 <br />Regular Meeting <br />Res. No. 05-12 <br />RE: AUTHORIZE A PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER REQUESTING <br />THE COMMONWEALTH TRANSPORTATION BOARD TO EXAMINE <br />RESTRICTING THROUGH -TRUCK TRAFFIC ON OLD CAROLINA <br />ROAD BETWEEN JAMES MADISON HIGHWAY (ROUTE 15) AND <br />WASHINGTON STREET (ROUTE 55) AND FROM FAYETTE STREET <br />TO LEE HIGHWAY (ROUTE 15) - GAINESVILLE MAGISTERIAL <br />DISTRICT <br />ACTION: APPROVED <br />WHEREAS, Old Carolina Road is not designed or intended to serve heavy <br />truck traffic; and <br />WHEREAS, Old Carolina Road is not recommended for trucks due to the <br />design and low speed limit; and <br />WHEREAS, heavy truck traffic causes safety problems on Old Carolina Road; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, an alternate route via James Madison Highway (Route 15) to <br />Washington Street (Route 55) or James Madison Highway (Route 15) to Lee Highway (Route <br />29) exists to accommodate heavy truck traffic safely and efficiently; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 46.2-809 of the Code of Virginia mandates that a public <br />hearing must be held by the local governing body to receive public comments on restricting <br />through -truck traffic on any part of a secondary highway; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Prince William Board of <br />County Supervisors does hereby authorize a public hearing to be scheduled by the Clerk to the <br />Board to consider the restriction of through tnick traffic on Old Carolina Road; <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk to the Board properly advertise <br />notice of the public hearing for the stated purpose in a newspaper of general circulation in <br />Prince William County. <br />
